Conference Theme

The main theme of the Conference is "Recreating Linkages between Theory and Praxis in Educational Leadership", which can be looked at from the following perspectives:

  • The translation of theoretical perspectives in educational leadership into practice; developing high quality leadership; the link between effective leadership and school effectiveness; recent theoretical perspectives and their impact on leadership practices; indigenous perspectives of educational leadership.
  • The role of educational leaders in developing and implementing a culture conducive to learning and effectiveness; the school principal as the instructional leader of the school and ways of improving the teaching and learning that takes place in schools and other educational establishments; high stakes testing and the role of educational leaders; does the school leader have an impact on the quality of learning and the results of his/her school? If yes, to what extent and how? If not, what should be done?
  • Educational reforms and their impact on leadership; the role of school leaders in the formulation and implementation of educational innovations; leadership and the management of change; decentralisation as a means for providing autonomy to school units and other educational establishments.
  • Schools and their external environments: how and to what extent educational establishments interact with their environments in order to create communities of learning? The establishment of links between various educational units; the role of the school leader in facilitating communication and interaction with stakeholders in education; ways of cooperation among school units; the utilisation of academic research in educational practice; the application of research programmes to every day school life.
  • Teachers and students as leaders; teacher professional development and its impact on the development of teacher leadership practices; formal and informal leadership at the school; power and politics in schools and their impact on leadership practices.
  • Decision making, problem solving and the quality of life in the various educational establishments.


Conference Content / Structure

The scientific programme will contain a broad range of presentations including:

Keynote Addresses
Speakers invited by the Organising Committee to address conference themes

Symposia
A small number of presented papers on a related topic

Paper Sessions
Papers chosen from abstracts submitted by participants

Tours
Visits to a number of schools/ educational institutions

Researchers, academicians, practitioners, teachers, graduate students and other professionals are warmly invited to submit proposals.
