This paper will give an overview of the survey instrument and some results from using this instrument. The main theoretical framework is based on the ideas of successful school leadership as a democratic, learning, change-oriented activity focused on the endeavour to form schools structure and culture to an organization fit to enable success for all children in school. Most of the questions have been identified through the empirical findings from over 50 case studies that have been conducted in the eight countries and the purpose is that the answers to the questions will provide new knowledge. The questionnaire contains 13 sections. Successful school leadership has become a major issue for school systems all over the world. Changes in the world economy have increased the pressure on national budgets and decreased the available resources, especially for public school systems. This means that schools have to use their resources more effectively. At the same time the demand for accountability when it comes to academic and civic goals for schools either has risen or is rising. Many see school leadership as a part of the solution to this dilemma. This survey provides information for a discussion of school leadership internationally. |
